Performance-based multi-objective optimization on BIM
Note that It is first paragraph about a study on hybrid parametric design exploration tool. We are often asked by client about cost performance design. Thus, we tried to develop parametric design method that is not only consider initial cost but also taking LCC into account. Specifically, we set unit module that includes parameter values for *GD. Then, we tried to optimize each parameter which influences retrofit cost or initial cost by means of NSGA-2.
*GD means Generative Design
We are working with and worked with.
worked with Kaneta lab.
This project starts as Kana Kono’s master thesis. Her professor Kaneta assisted us to develop idea in terms of building life cycle design.
We are stile working with Refinery team.
We are using GD on Revit.
Original contribution
Generative Design (GD) have been used for stretching the boundaries of what’s possible about design, for example, complex shape of building, logical layout of planning, parametric modelling of geometry and more. Although the field of computer aided architectural design research reveals a growing, yet small body of BIM-based GD-tool publications. Especially, BIM-based parametric design tool that involves cost performance is rarely seen before. Interrogating the CumInCAD database, a search for "Refinery" which released as BIM-based GD tool from Autodesk returned only 1 papers (Ulkucu, Yigitcan and Alacam, Sema 2019). The lack of BIM-based GD in CAD research is not due to a lack of research interest, it was the combination of two factors specific to the field of the built environment: the first one is a lack of built-in GD tool in BIM, not optimization solver like “Optimo” and another one is lack of compatibility for BIM software in terms of mostly speed.
We are planning to publish and present it on related conferences.
